Review ONEOSEVEN Coreflex Hydro Rich Cream

Clique aqui para português.

Hey! This week’s review is of a product from a brand called ONE O SEVEN, a brand that uses 100% naturally fermented vinegar and over 20 different oriental herbs that are supposed to improve your body and skin. As you might know, I’ve received some products from them to try, in exchange of a honest and unbiased review.

Chloe, from 107, kindly provided me the Coreflex Hydro Rich Cream, the Premium Black Soap and two of the Snow Mask Essential Mask Pack.

Below you can find out more about the brand:

“One O Seven is a Korean cosmetics brand that develops cleansing foam and skincare products using natural fermentation vinegar as the raw material based on 107 magic formulas succeeded for 35 generations. Ohk Ran Chung is a pharmacist and the 35th chairman of Hanega, Korea’s biggest natural fermentation vinegar brand. She developed premium vinegar cosmetics after she noticed that the quality natural fermentation vinegar fermented for over 5 years helps relieving skin troubles including atopic dermatitis and prevents aging. During the research process, she discovered seven essential amino acids and organic materials including saccharomyces and lactobacillus that naturally forms from natural fermentation vinegar. Combination of craftsmanship and high-tech research brought creation to an innovative cosmetics brand, One O Seven.
Seven essential amino acids contained in One O Seven are organic amino acids incomparable to synthetic amino acids. Nutrients are about how easily our body can digest, not about how good they are. The seven essential amino acids of One O Seven’s are organically originated elements that get absorbed to skin naturally and help increasing elasticity, preventing aging, and recovery of skin by enhancing vitality of your skin.”

I’ve been looking at their website and I found something interesting, they work with UHIC helping children in Tanzania. Good job, 107!

“One O Seven works with UHIC to help children in Tanzania, Africa.  They donate office space to the 20 child care facilities, which work to help prevent the spreading of diseases. One O Seven also donates part of their proceeds to UHIC every month while supporting the volunteer and events sponsored by UHIC.  One O Seven’s philosophy is to make the world a better place for all of us.”

I wanted to review all of the products I received in one post, but I am afraid it would be too long. Instead, I am going to be reviewing the cream in one post and the soap and the sheet mask together, in another post.

Shall we?

Analyse of some ingredients

Butylene Glycol: Skin conditioning agent;

Glycerin: Also called glycerine or glycerol, glycerin is a skin-replenishing and restoring ingredient. It is naturally found in the skin. It’s one of the best humectants;

Cyclopentasiloxane: A silicone. It’s used mainly as a conditioner, delivery agent, lubricant and/or solvent. It forms a protective barrier on the skin. It’s said that it might temporary provide a “plumper skin” effect, by filling in lines and wrinkles;

Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil: It is a non-volatile, non-fragrant plant oil used as an emollient in cosmetics. It consists primarily of triglycerides of linoleic and oleic acids, and it’s an oil rich in vitamin E, making it a powerful antioxidant. Also,  it helps maintain the skin barrier and decreases transepidermal water loss;

PEG/PPG-18/4 Copolymer: A synthetic polymer compound that functions as a solvent;

Isostearyl Isostearate: An ester of Isostearyl Alcohol and Isostearic Acid. Functions as binder, skin conditioning agent and emollient;

Bacillus/Corchorus olitorius Leaf Ferment Filtrate: It is the filtrate of the product obtained by the fermentation of the leaves of Corchorus olitorius (Moroheiya) by the microorganism Bacillus. It contains six phenolic antioxidative compounds, [5-caffeoylquinic acid (chlorogenic acid), 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, quercetin 3-galactoside, quercetin 3-glucoside, quercetin 3-(6-malonylglucoside), and quercetin 3-(6-malonylgalactoside) (tentative)]. According to ONE O SEVEN, Moroheiya has Hyalurone B, an ingredient that calms and delivers intensive hydration;

Niacinamide:  Niacinamide is an effective skin lightening compound that works by inhibiting melanosome transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes. It improves the stratum corneum barrier, decreases transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Also, niacinamide is well tolerated, and isn’t subject to oxidation. If you are interested in learning more about this compound, you can check A Review of the Range of Effects of Niacinamide in Human Skin.;

1,2-Hexanediol:  A highly effective and mild coupling agent and humectant. It contains many chemicals in its composition, including: Alpha-Lipoic acids, an antioxidant; Chrysin, an anti-inflammatory bioflavonoid; Diosgenin, a maintainer of healthy blood cholesterol levels; Glucosamine Hydrochloride, which slows joint degeneration; and Indole-3-Carbinol, a nutrient that may prevent cancer (Source);

Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate:  An anti-caking agent, a viscosity increasing agent, and an absorbent. It can lessen the greasy shine of some formulations;

Cyclohexasiloxane: A silicone with proprieties similar to Cyclopentasiloxane;

Dimethiconol: A silicone with similar proprieties to others silicones;

Glyceryl Stearate: Derived from palm kernel, vegetable or soy oil and also found naturally in the human body, it acts as a lubricant, which gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance. It slows the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the surface. Also, it has been shown to protect skin from free-radical damage;

Arginine:  A semi-essential amino acid that is produced naturally by the body. It mainly functions as an antioxidant that helps build collagen production, when applied topically. Orally, it can speed up wound healing;

Lactobacillus/Soymilk Ferment Filtrate: A fermented ingredient from the fermentation of soymilk by Lactobacillus. It has hydrating and possibly antibacterial proprieties;

Lactobacillus/Panax ginseng Root Ferment Filtrate: It has several skin benefits such as effects in photoaging, skin cancer, dermatitis, hair loss, alopecia… Ginsenosides (active compounds present in Panax ginseng) exhibit diverse biological effects, including anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic;

Lactobacillus/Punica granatum Fruit Ferment Extract: Fermented pomegranate by Lactobacillus. Pomegranate has high levels of Vitamin C and antioxidants. It also helps to control UVA- and UVB-induced damage, helps with skin regeneration, hyperpigmentation control, collagen production, has chemopreventative activity, and matrix metalloproteinase inhibition;

Buxus chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil: Works as a natural skin emollient, lubricant and cleanser. A 2005 article in Pharmacological Research documents jojoba oil as having anti-inflammatory and skin soothing properties as well. Furthermore, because its structure and function resembles that of the lipid content of skin, it is also classified as a Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). As an NMF, it helps keep the intercellular structure of the epidermis intact and effectively  keeps bacteria out, facilitates the skin’s healing process, prevents dermal irritation and regenerates the skin (Source);

Panthenol:  This study showed that Panthenol-containing formulations (1.0% and 5.0%) produced significant decreases in TEWL (transepidermal water loss) after 30-day applications

Panthenol has been reported to produce a number of skin benefits. In particular, panthenol promotes wound healing, helps restore damaged epithelium, reduces itching and inflammation, improves skin hydration, reduces transepidermal water loss, improves skin roughness, and more. It is not entirely clear how panthenol achieves all these effects. Most likely, much of it is due to conversion of panthenol to vitamin B5 (aka pantothenic acid), a component of coenzyme A, which has multiple metabolic functions in the body: aid in cellular energy production; metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates; synthesis of fatty acids, steroids, glucose, acetylcholine and so forth (Source);

Trehalose: A sugar found in plants, used as a moisturizer;

Allantoin: It has skin soothing, healing and keratolytic (ability to remove excess of skin) properties. It enables the skin to absorb more moisture;

Adenosine: It is a yeast-derived ingredient that functions as a soothing and skin-restoring agent. Adenosine has proven anti-wrinkle benefits due to its ability to energize skin’s surface. It is naturally present in the body and all skin types can use;

Sodium Hyaluronate: The salt form of hyaluronic acid, a water-binding ingredient that has the ability to fill the spaces between collagen and elastin. Sodium hyaluronate has been used for moisturization and wound healing since its discovery, it can hold up to 1000 its own weight in water;

Polyglutamic Acid: It increases natural moisturizing factors such as amino acids by revitalizing cells inside the skin;

Beta-Glucan: Anti-wrinkles. Scientific reports indicate that ß-glucan is a film-forming moisturizer, a biological response modifier, and a promoter of wound healing. A clinical study of 27 subjects was performed to evaluate the effects of beta-glucan on facial fine-lines and wrinkles. After 8 weeks of treatment, digital image analysis of silicone replicas indicated a significant reduction of wrinkle depth and height, and overall roughness (Anti-Wrinkle Therapy: Significant New Findings in the Non-Invasive Cosmetic Treatment of Skin Wrinkles with Beta-Glucan);

Vinegar: This is one of the main ingredients that ONE O SEVEN uses. This is a 7 years old naturally fermented vinegar that are supposed to remove invisible flakes and to take care of stuffed pores filled with harmful oils that may cause acne. It gives skin the appearance of elasticity and strong firmness. Also, vinegar can balance skin’s pH. The main active of vinegar is acetic acid, an organic acid that can be corrosive to skin if not diluted. Acetic acid can kill bacterias and reduce acne.

Too much silicone?

This cream has 3 types of silicone. Particularly, I don’t mind creams with silicones, because silicones play an important role by creating a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, so it can make the skin hydrated for a long time by decreasing transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and as I am using it mostly as a night cream, it’s perfect. Also, it gives the formulation a nice touch, better spreadability and feeling. But on the other hand, I don’t like using a lot of combined stuff with silicone because the barrier that is created can be too oclusive and possibly break me out. Creams and sunscreens with moderate concentration of silicones are fine, but again, one thing with silicone is enough for me.

Acne triggers according to Cosdna

Butylene Glycol, Squalane and PEG-100 Stearate strike 1 out of 5. Cetyl Alcohol and Sunflower Seed Oil strike 2. Isostearyl Isostearate strikes 4 out of 5.

I haven’t experienced any increase of pimples. I do have tendency to develop pimples when using some ingredients (Isostearyl Isostearate is one of them) but this cream didn’t break me out. Maybe because it’s super light and highly absorbed. If you have noticed an increasing of pimples using something that contains Isostearyl Isostearate, I advice you to be careful with this ingredient.

Irritant according to Cosdna

Sunflower Seed Oil strikes 0-2 out of 5. Isostearyl Isostearate and Sorbitan Stearate strike 1 out of 5. Cetyl Alcohol strikes 2 out 5.

Safety according to Cosdna

Most ingredients are green flagged (1 to 2 out of 9). Cyclopentasiloxane, Polysorbate 60, PEG-100 Stearate strike 3 out of 9. Phenoxyethanol strikes 4 out of 9 while Fragrance strikes 1-4 out of 9. There isn’t a single red flagged ingredient.

It comes inside a box. It’s a typical frosted plastic jar with a protective cap. The main cap has a type of mirror that can be good (or maybe not?) for those that do their skincare without the help of a mirror but would like to have a small mirror around.

I really missed the inclusion of a spatula. I hate the fact that I have to put my fingers inside the whole jar. It’s not hygienic, it easily contaminates the entire product.

Fortunately I had a spatula that came with the last cream I have used. I knew that keeping it would be the best thing I could have done! But for those who don’t own a spatula, guess which item was the newest launch by ONE O SEVEN? Yes, a spatula. A f*cking gorgeous spatula called Mother-of-Pearl.

I wish I could have it! Very beautiful, right?

They are selling the Mother-of-Pearl Spatula Set, which includes Mother-of-Pearl Spatula and spatula holder designed by Korean potter, ‘Dou’. Every spatula must be kept clean and sanitized. ONE O SEVEN spatula holder is a ‘MUST ITEM’ if you want to have a clean spatula every time you put cream on your face. It’s a limited edition, so in case you want to acquire it, hurry up! You can either buy only the spatula and the holder or you can buy the discounted set composed of Coreflex Cream with the spatula and holder.

A cream packed with antioxidants

As you saw above, this cream has a lot of antioxidants and skin-restoring ingredients, making it not only a moisturizing cream but also an antioxidant treatment that will help your skin to look healthier.

Texture and scent

The texture and scent of this cream are AMAZING! I was truly expecting something like a watery cream, a gel/cream texture, you know? All of this because of the word “Hydro”.

Turns out that I was right. It does have a gel/cream texture and when I apply it on my face, it doesn’t feel like a greasy/heavy cream. Not at all. It feels more like a thick Essence. It’s easily absorbed by my skin and it leaves it glowing and extremely hydrated.

It is a very soft gel/cream. I really love it.

The scent very good! It smells like cherry candy/syrup. It’s sweet and very pleasant.

How to use

You can either use it AM or PM. I use it PM mostly because it’s a bit hot here in Rio de Janeiro (actually, it’d be a surprise if I said it’s not) and I avoid using creams in the morning. But I have used it when it was slightly colder (around 20ºC) and I found it to be good when used in the cold mornings. If I had dry skin I would definitely use it AM and PM.

Just add the amount you want and apply it on your entire face. Massage it until it’s completely absorbed and then continue with your routine. If you choose to use it in the night, apply it as the last step, like a Sleeping Pack.

Now I am going to show how much dewy and moisturized my skin becomes when I apply it. Below there’s the back of my hand, looking pale and lifeless.

I applied this amount of cream to the back of my hand:

LRM_EXPORT_20170512_141410 (1).jpg

After massaging, this is what my hand looked like:

As you can see, it became super moisturized and very dewy. I feel like after applying this cream to my face when it’s tight, it makes it relaxed, soothed and happy (why not?!).

Final thoughts

This cream was absolutely amazing for my combination skin. Pure love! I can say that as long as I use it, my dehydrated forehead won’t be called dehydrated, but dewy and hydrated, instead.

If you have very oily skin and you want to try this cream, I suggest you to use this cream as a Sleeping Pack. I don’t think oily skins would appreciate using it in the morning.

If you have combination skin (like me), you can use it in the morning as a spot treatment to hydrate the dry parts of your skin or on your entire face if it’s cold.

P.S.: The Coreflex line won the ‘2016 Anti-Aging Expo Grand Prize’.

Thank you so much, Chloe, for sending me ONEOSEVEN products to try.
