Review Etude House Moistfull Collagen Skin Care Kit

Para português, clique aqui.

I received from Pó de Arroz Cosméticos, a Brazilian store that sells Asian cosmetics, some products for free in exchange for an honest review. They contacted and asked me if there was something I was interested in.

And there was. I chose the following products:

  • Etude House Moistfull Collagen Skin Care Kit;
  • Nivea (Japan) Sun Protect Water Gel Super.

I’ve included these products in my routine and I am very happy with them. My morning routine in the past weeks was composed by the Moistfull line, Narüko Total Brightening Serum (because I must use something to control melanin, review here), and the sunscreen. Since the Moistfull line wasn’t made to control melanin, I felt that I could keep using my serum without any conflict about effects from Moistfull line.

More about the brand

I found an image on Etude House’s website and I’d like to share.

This is too much girly.

I’d think twice before getting into these stores.

Ok, let’s go ahead to what really matters, the review. I am going to start first with the sequence that I found that worked the best. The sequence is Essence, Toner, Emulsion, and Cream.

Moistfull Collagen Essence

The small particles of the super collagen water and Baobab oil in the Moistfull Collagen Essence endlessly provide moisture and leave your skin feeling bouncy like jelly throughout the whole day. This product is easily absorbable and light enough that the stickiness won’t be felt.

This essence contains 78.5% of hydrolyzed collagen (water soluble collagen). Below you can find the ingredient list.

Ingredient list

Hydrolyzed Collagen, Butylene Glycol, Propanediol, Alcohol, Betaine, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Water, Adansonia Digitata Fruit Extract, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Biosaccharide Gum-1, BIS-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Stearic Acid, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Poloxamer 407, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phytantriol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance.

Analysis of some ingredients

Hydrolyzed Collagen: Water soluble collagen. Collagen molecules are generally too large to penetrate into the skin. It remains outside the surface layer but it can also provide some benefits such as skin hydration, boost skin barrier function, and make a protective film on the skin;

Butylene Glycol: Skin conditioning agent;

Propanediol: It can enhance the absorption of ingredients. It can be derived naturally from corn or also synthetically. It has hydrating properties. It is well-tolerated and not likely to cause sensitivity;

Alcohol: Solvent, absorption enhancing, ingredient delivery;

Betaine: It is an amino acid and primarily functions as a humectant and anti-irritant. It can also temporarily decrease deep wrinkles, making the face smoother. It’s capable of giving superior hydration to the skin, without leaving residue like glycerin based products;

Glyceryl Polymethacrylate: A film former and viscosity agent that is often used in gels because it has a strong hydrating power and a very high water-absorbing power. It can help reconstruct the skin and increase its firmness. It also contains a natural fragment of elastin;

Adansonia digitata (Baobab) Fruit Extract: It contains a higher concentration of vitamin C than an orange. It can hydrate and refresh the skin. Also, it has antioxidant capacity.

Antioxidant capacity of Adansonia digitata fruit pulp and leaves;

Adansonia digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil: It has anti-aging, cell regeneration, and elasticity improvement properties. It’s rich in sterols, tocopherols, and fatty acids;

Glycerin: Also called glycerine or glycerol, glycerin is a skin-replenishing and restoring ingredient. It is a humectant naturally found in the skin;

Glyceryl Stearate: Derived from palm kernel, vegetable or soy oil and also found naturally in the human body, it acts as a lubricant, which gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance. It slows the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the surface. Also, it has been shown to protect skin from free-radical damage;

Glyceryl Caprylate: Acts as an emollient and also as an emulsifier;

Biosaccharide Gum-1: A polysaccharide made by plants, that acts by binding water and creating a moisture film on the skin. It also works as an anti-irritant;

Cetearyl Alcohol: Fatty alcohol that is made from a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. It can be derived naturally from coconut or synthesized. It works as an emollient, texture enhancer, carrying agent…;

Cetearyl Olivate: It’s an ester of cetearyl alcohol and the fatty acids derived from olive oil that helps soften the skin and hair. It’s mostly an emulsifier;

Sorbitan Olivate: Emulsifier based on olive oil and sorbitol;

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer:  Commonly found in moisturizers, sunscreens, cleansers and anti-aging products, it contains both hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups allowing it to bind to both water and oil, which makes it useful when combining two phases to create a single one. It is also used as a stabilizer, viscosity enhancer and also can form a film when applied topically;

Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Vp Copolymer: Synthetic polymeric sulfonic acid known as Aristoflex AVC. It’s used to increase the viscosity of a product;

Poloxamer 407: Emulsifier;

Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate: A plant-based emulsifier that is also used as an emollient;

PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil: A polyethylene glycol derived from Hydrogenated Castor Oil that contains an average of 60 moles of ethylene oxide. It works as a surfactant, cleansing agent;

Phytantriol: An aliphatic alcohol that functions as anticaking, hair conditioning, skin conditioning agent;

Hydrogenated Lecithin: A natural emulsifying agent;

Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer: Thickening and emulsifying agent;

Phenoxyethanol: Preservative;

Potassium Hydroxide: pH adjuster.

Acne triggers according to CosDNA

Butylene Glycol strikes 1 out of 5 while Cetearyl Alcohol and Stearic Acid strike 2 out of 5.

Irritants according to CosDNA

Cetearyl Alcohol is the only one and strikes 2 out of 5.

Safety according to CosDNA

Most of them are green flagged. Phytantriol is green and yellow flagged (it strikes between 2 and 3 out of 9). Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, and Potassium Hydroxide strike 3 out of 9. Fragrance strikes between 1 and 4 out of 9. Phenoxyethanol strikes 4 out of 9. No red flagged ingredients spotted.

Packaging

The Essence comes in an airless pump bottle with 15 mL. One thing that I love is, even though the bottle is small, they made an effort to put it in an airless pump.

LRM_EXPORT_20170625_104451.jpg

It’s made of plastic. Be careful when you pump it because the pump can get hardened (at least mine did) and if you press it too hard, the product will fly away. lol

Texture and scent

The texture is watery but thick and it feels good on the skin.

The scent is ok. I don’t know what it smells like but it’s not something bad. It’s very light.

How to use

Before the usage of toner, apply the appropriate amount onto the face and massage from the center, out. Then with the leftover moisture, gently dab away so that the skin absorbs them.

Performance

This product is very good. It’s one of the best in this kit. It does what it says. It is deeply absorbed because it contains alcohol and some emulsifiers. My skin feels very hydrated and comfortable after using this product.

Maybe I would purchase the full-size (MAYBE).

Rate: 4/5

Best suited for (in my opinion): Every skin type.

Moistfull Collagen Facial Toner

The small particles of the super collagen water and Baobab water in the Moistfull Collagen Facial Toner, endlessly provide moisture and leave your skin feeling very hydrated. Like jelly, the water droplets are soft to the skin yet firm in absorption. It gives the skin a bouncy jelly feel.

This toner contains 28% of hydrolyzed collagen and 8.9% of baobab fruit extract.

Ingredient list

Water, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Adansonia Digitata Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Glycerin, Betaine, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, BIS-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Potassium Hydroxide, Poloxamer 407, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Phytantriol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.

Analysis of some ingredients

The actives are all the same. There are some different ingredients comparing to the Essence but nothing that I need to explain.

Acne triggers according to CosDNA

There’s only one. Butylene Glycol strikes 1 out of 5.

Irritants according to CosDNA

Carbomer (viscosity enhancer) is the only one. It strikes 1 out of 5.

Safety according to CosDNA

Most of them are green flagged. Phytantriol is green and yellow flagged (it strikes between 2 and 3 out of 9). Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, and Potassium Hydroxide strike 3 out of 9. Fragrance strikes between 1 and 4 out of 9. Phenoxyethanol strikes 4 out of 9. No red flagged ingredients spotted.

Packaging

Comes in a 20 mL plastic bottle with a screw cap.

LRM_EXPORT_20170625_104358

It’s easy to get the product. Very easy.

Texture and scent

The texture is very watery but it’s a bit thick. The texture reminds me of the liquid of sheet masks, you know what I mean? It’s very runny (more than the Essence) but I feel like it doesn’t absorb as fast as the Essence. It leaves no residue.

The same unknown fragrance as the entire line. It feels like the toner is slightly more fragranced than the Essence, Emulsion, and Cream.

How to use

After cleansing your face and using the essence, use the facial toner, massaging from center-out. Whatever extra moisture there is left, gently dab it away.

Performance

I like this toner, it hydrates my skin very well but I don’t like to use it when it’s too humid because it can make my skin very glowy and I don’t like glowy skin when it’s humid. I wouldn’t buy the full-size because even though it’s well absorbed, I still can feel it on my skin.

Rate: 3/5

Best suited for (in my opinion): Normal to dry skin.

Moistfull Collagen Emulsion

The small particles of the super collagen water and Baobab water in the Moistfull Collagen Emulsion, endlessly provide moisture and leave your skin feeling bouncy like jelly.  Moistfull Collagen Emulsion has a light but firm texture that adheres all the moisture and nutrients onto the skin.

This emulsion contains 14% of hydrolyzed collagen and 6% of baobab fruit extract.

Ingredient list

Water, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Butylene Glycol, Adansonia Digitata Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Polysorbate 60, Cyclohexasiloxane, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethiconol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Alcohol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Poloxamer 407, PEG-100 Stearate, Phytantriol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance.

Analysys of some ingredients

Again, the same actives. This emulsion contains some silicones and polymers, such as Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Dimethiconol and more.

Acne triggers according to CosDNA

Butylene Glycol and PEG-100 Stearate strike 1 out of 5. Cetearyl Alcohol strikes 2 out of 3. Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil strikes 3 out of 5

Irritants according to CosDNA

Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil strikes between 0 and 1. Sorbitan Stearate and Carbomer strike 1 out of 5. Cetearyl Alcohol strikes 2 out of 5.

Safety according to CosDNA

Most of them are green flagged. Fragrance strikes between 1 and 4 out of 9. Phytantriol strikes between 2 and 3 out of 9. Cyclopentasiloxane, Polysorbate 60, and PEG-100 Stearate strike 3 out of 9. Phenoxyethanol strikes 4.

CosDNA analysis: Etude House Moistfull Collagen Emulsion.

Packaging

Same as the toner and also 20 mL.

LRM_EXPORT_20170625_104145 (1)

Not as easy to take the product out of the bottle as the toner is. You have to hit the bottle against your finger.

Texture and scent

The texture is very milky. It’s creamy and very easy to spread, like a regular emulsion.

Same fkin’ scent but milder than the toner.

How to use

After the essence (after the toner, please!), apply the appropriate amount onto the face and massage from the center, out. Then with the leftover moisture, gently dab away so that the skin absorbs them.

Performance

The most boring item from this kit. It’s not good to use when it’s humid because it leaves a glowy finishing and it’s definitely not good for oily and/or acne-prone skin because it can increase the oil and acne. Also, there’s no point of using both emulsion and cream because they are practically the same. Between emulsion and cream, I’d stick to the cream.

I’m not impressed by this product. I wouldn’t purchase the full-size.

Best suited for (in my opinion): Normal to dry skin.

This cream contains 63.4% of hydrolyzed collagen (Small Super Collagen Water).

Ingredient list

Hydrolyzed Collagen, Butylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Adansonia Digitata Fruit Extract, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Betaine, Kaolin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, PCA Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Stearic Acid, Silica, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Poloxamer 407, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Phytantriol, PPG-5-Laureth-5, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Alcohol, Water, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance.

Analysys of some ingredients

Same actives. This cream contains some different ingredients like Kaolin (to absorb the excess of oil), Silica (oil absorber), PCA Dimethicone and more.

Acne triggers according to CosDNA

Butylene Glycol strikes 1 out of 5. Cetearyl Alcohol and Stearic Acid strike 2 out of 5.

Irritants according to CosDNA

Cetearyl Alcohol strikes 2 out of 5. It’s the only one.

Safety according to CosDNA

Most of them are green flagged. Fragrance strikes between 1 and 4 out of 9. Phytantriol strikes between 2 and 3 out of 9. Cyclopentasiloxane, Sodium Polyacrylate, and PPG-5 Laureth-5 strike 3 out of 9. Phenoxyethanol strikes 4.

CosDNA analysis: Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream.

Packaging

It comes in a tiny 10 mL plastic jar.

LRM_EXPORT_20170625_104303

Not very hygienic. I always take the cream with a spatula, anyway.

Texture and scent

The texture is like a “thick but still watery” cream. The color is a bit yellowish, different from the emulsion, which is very white.

The same scent but lighter than the emulsion, and toner.

How to use

Apply an appropriate amount of the cream onto face and smoothly massage from center to outer. Gently dab away the leftover content of moisture to let the skin absorb them perfectly.

Performance

This is the best item from this kit! I’ve used a sample of it years ago (3 years, maybe) and I fell in love.

This cream is very hydrating. It does lock in moisture and somehow it helps to strengthen my skin’s barrier. Once I apply it, my skin is hydrated during the whole day.

Etude says the effect of the collagen lasts for 120 hours, but as soon as I wash my face, it goes away. It’s not a problem because I can just apply it again over my face.

I would purchase the full-size.

Rate: 4.5/5

Best suited for (in my opinion): Every skin type but oily and/or acne-prone skin would enjoy the Jelly Cream version reviewed by me on my Instagram.

Final thoughts

I really enjoyed using this kit. The cream is by far my favorite one, following by the essence. I felt like this line helped me a lot to rebuild my skin’s moisture barrier because I was feeling like it was damaged/weak. It does what it says but some products didn’t feel good on my skin because here in Rio de Janeiro is very humid and glowy skin here is seen like oily skin.

This kit is very cheap, you can find it for less than 8 dollars on eBay. So if you’re interested in this line, I advise you to try this kit first. It lasts a long time. I am using it for two weeks and I still have more than half left.
