Review Swanicoco Syul Dione Luminous Kit

Clique aqui para português.

I received this product for free from Swanicoco.

Swanicoco, a South Korean brand, is literally one of my favorite brands to date. I like how clean their formulations are. How they combine science and “nature”. Their Bitamin C Skintoner is the best Toner I’ve used last year, and I say it with no doubts.

Recently I’ve been trying Syul Dione Luminous, a line that is anti-aging, wrinkle-treating, wrinkle-preventing, antioxidant, hydrating, and whitening.

The line is inspired by an Asian queen that looked impeccable beautiful and youth. It’s said that this queen used to use twelve herbal extracts, which Swanicoco calls “Okyong“. Okyong is a complex made of abalone, agarwood, fennel, ginseng, black cohosh, common purslane, elm roots, hyacinth orchid, ginger, Centella asiatica, mung bean, and Korean angelica extracts. The line was created after many years of research, and stands for “the most beautiful and confident goddess“.

Using a Corneometer CM820, Elm root extract showed almost the same moisturizing effect as hyaluronic acid. It was also shown that the cell recovery of human fibroblasts after UVA photo-induced damage increased to levels two times higher than the positive control (UVA-damaged cells in the absence of Elm root extract). In a photo-induced cytotoxicity assay in the presence of promethazine as a photosensitizer, Elm root extract showed approximately 48% of the increased cell viability of the control. It also has a strong antioxidant activity. Contains also a compound called Bakuchiol, which has potent anti-inflammatory property;

Niacinamide: Niacinamide is an effective skin lightening compound that works by inhibiting melanosome transfer from melanocytes to keratinocytes. It improves the stratum corneum barrier, decreases transepidermal water loss (TEWL), stimulates new collagen synthesis, up-regulates epidermal ceramide synthesis, reduces skin hyperpigmentation, regulates the sebum production. Niacinamide has also been shown to provide potent anti-inflammatory activity in the treatment of acne vulgaris. It also exerts multiple benefits on the appearance of aging/photodamaged skin (improves skin texture, hyperpigmentation) and demonstrates excellent skin compatibility.

Betaine (except in the Emulsion): An amino acid and primarily functions as a humectant and anti-irritant. It can also temporarily decrease deep wrinkles, making the face smoother. It’s capable of giving superior hydration to the skin, without leaving residue like glycerin based products;

Panthenol (except in the Essence):  It’s been shown that panthenol-containing formulations (1.0% and 5.0%) produced significant decreases in TEWL (transepidermal water loss) after 30-day applications. Panthenol promotes wound healing, helps restore damaged epithelium, reduces itching and inflammation, improves skin hydration, reduces transepidermal water loss, improves skin roughness, and more.

Packaging

They all have got gorgeous and very detailed pump packaging, except the cream, which has a jar container.

I wish there was a spatula because it’s a cream in a jar.

Texture and scent

They all have a nice texture. The Skintoner is very liquid and absorbs well. The Essence has a slightly jelly texture. The Emulsion has a milky, runny texture. The Cream has a thick, butter-like texture.

In order: SkintonerEssenceEmulsionCream.

What really disappointed me was the scent! I was expecting it to be something very earthy, herbal, root-like, similar to the Ginseng Callus Ampoule. However, it has a fragrance that I don’t like. I don’t find it well-thought. This is a set inspired in a, let’s say, plant elixir, so I was really expecting a hanbang kind of scent. Swanicoco, please, make it happen!

How to use

Wash your face, apply the Skintoner, Essence, Emulsion, and finish by applying the Cream.

Performance

Despite being disappointed by the scent, all I have to say is that I’m more than happy with the set. I’ve been using this entire set during my night routine for over one month and I feel like it makes my face more resilient, and well hydrated. The formula is rich in antioxidants that are back-upped by some studies. Niacinamide, ginseng, hyaluronic acid, licorice salt, many good plant extracts… all the good stuff.

Final thoughts

I love everything about this set except the scent (I’ll keep repeating it until Swanicoco improves it). The ingredient lists are the biggest eye-catcher (look at them again if you haven’t). The textures are nice too. I can easily use step 1, 2, and 3 during the day. The cream is a bit too rich for me but if I had dry skin it’d be perfect during the day. Oily skins will also enjoy steps 1, 2, and 3 during the day. The cream works amazingly as a Sleeping Mask.

353 dollars for a set sounds really expensive. However, Beautytap (formerly W2Beauty) has given my readers a discount coupon so this set becomes affordable after using it! The code is rafsyuldione and it’s valid until March 31st. It gives you 20% off, dropping the price of each product to 70 dollars I get 5% of the value in case you use my coupon (let’s be transparent).

This is a high-end set with a mid-end price and high-end ingredient lists. A complete anti-aging, hydrating, and brightening routine with super concentrated products. It reminds me of Sulwhasoo but with a better price tag.
